Book Review of Three's Company (Menage Mates) by Kassandra Cox

Synopsis:

Adam has played a role for so long that he lives half a life, burying the need within for the sake of appearances. Paul knows and accepts the man he is, but is gun-shy and not willing to risk his heart again too soon. Janine cares for them both and is determined to help them by arranging a menage that is nothing short of pure hedonistic pleasure. Will love conquer all, or is each too jaded to reach for more?

Review:

Three's Company (Menage Mates)Three's Company by Kassandra Cox
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

I wasn't sure about reviewing this book at first, because I hadn't read a lot of erotica with threesomes in them. However, I thought I would give it a go. I'm glad I did, because I loved it!

Adam is a wonderful character. He is an accountant in a prestigious firm, but there is a secret he has been hiding. He is bi-sexual, but is unsure of his colleague's reactions, so he pretends to be straight. This makes him feel lonely. I liked this character very much.

Janine is another wonderful character. As Adam's "friend with benefits", I found her to be a loyal and loving partner. However, it is her ability to see beyond Adam's persona and into his sadness that made me like her even more.

Paul is also a fantastic character. Being openly gay and just having had his heart broken by a failed romance, he wasn't looking for love. I liked Paul very much too!

As I had previously said, I haven't read a lot of erotic novels or novellas with threesomes, so I was unsure of what to expect. I thought it would be a "wham, bam" type of book. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was more of a romance story, and I was hooked from the first page! The characters each have their own say, and this gives the reader an insight into their thoughts and feelings. This novella is only 38 pages long, and in my opinion, a little too short! However, I was intrigued with the arc of the story, which flowed beautifully. I am now looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

Kassandra Cox has written a fantastic erotic novella that is extremely HOT and STEAMY! *Fanning myself!!* This is the second novella I have read by this author, and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future.

I do not recommend this book to younger readers (under 18) due to the explicit sexual content. However, if you love HOT and STEAMY erotica and/or are looking for a bit of F/M/M action, this book is for you! - Lynn Worton

Master shares his father’s Italian hometown with his little sub. While exploring the island they discover something that has remained hidden for years, waiting for Master’s return. This is a beautiful journey of passion, healing and sacrifice.

This seventh novella in the After Graduation series is a tantalizing ride as Brie experiences arousing Domination, hurtful rejection, and the strength of ‘condor love’.

Extended Description:

Brie must face her parents, among other things, before traveling to Italy with her Master. There Master introduces her to his father’s charming hometown and large Italian family. All seems well until an old lover enters the picture. It becomes a struggle for Brie as she attempts to balance her natural jealousy with the deep love she has for her Master. Even more surprises are in store for her, including a surprise birthday party that is uniquely Brie-licious.

About the author:

I am a happily married woman who believes (based on personal experience) that love conquers all. It is a running theme in my writing.

One thing you will notice about my work, I'm all about variety. If a character beseeches me to write his/her story, I willingly give myself over no matter the genre or subject ~ as long as it includes hot, steamy sex. ;)

Book Review of Blind Veil by Michael Lorde

Synopsis:

What does an unreported crime that occurred decades earlier have to do with a NYC cop? Everything!

Nothing the old scientist told him could possibly be true…or so the decorated New York Cop and former Marine tries to tell himself.

But as the evidence mounts, he faces the terrifying question -- is the Blind Veil lifting?

In a race for his life, he must decide if he is losing his mind or is the world he thought he knew merely an illusion?

Review:

Blind VeilBlind Veil by Michael Lorde
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

Lamont Simms is a fantastic character. He is a New York City cop with a sharp mind and a firm grip on reality. Or has he?
I really liked this character, as he tried to unravel a mystery that went back into his childhood.

This is a fantastic psychological thriller that had my heart pounding, and had me hooked from the first page! There is a really shocking scene at the beginning of the story that was more than a little gruesome, but it brought the characters into sharp focus, especially Emmett, Lamont's Uncle. He is a very strong character, and is the first character we meet. His story is not a happy one, but the author did a wonderful job bringing it to life.
The story then switches to Lamont, and his life as a cop. However, the story takes a dramatic twist into horror, as his life is changed by a demented scientist. Or is he demented? I felt myself being swept away with the tale, and I found myself doubting my own sanity, never mind that of the characters! This book reminded me of several episodes of The X-Files! Are we being visited by aliens, and are we being tricked into thinking they are not here? Or are we not being visited and there is no cover up? Paranoia can run rampant in fictional characters and readers alike! Shivers ran up my spine whilst reading this book, as the author had created a feeling of horror and dread in me that I found difficult to shake even after finishing it. It made me question my own belief in what defines being "sane". Conspiracy theorists would have a field day with this book!

Michael Lorde has written a completely absorbing (and terrifying!) novel that captured my attention, and I am now looking forward to reading more of his work. His attention to detail was fantastic, the story flowed beautifully and was fast paced enough to keep the suspense and intrigue in the "dangerously high" level!

As this book has some violence and some unsettling scenes, I do not recommend this story to younger readers. However, I highly recommend this book if you love horror, suspense or thrillers. - Lynn Worton

The Sidekick Chronicles, Volume II (A Gryphon Series Novella)The Sidekick Chronicles, Volume II by Stacey Rourke
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Review 6******

I have been eagerly awaiting the release of this novella. When it was released, I snapped up a copy as quickly as I could!

Rowan Wade is an enigmatic character. A rogue, a member of the Dark Army and a pirate, he hides a softer side that he very rarely shows.

I wasn't sure about Rowan when I first met him in Embrace, but I fell in love with him in Sacrifice. This is his story where we journey through his history. I found this tale very touching, and I think I have fallen even more for him - if that's at all possible! I now understand his motivation behind joining the Dark Army. It's not exactly a happy tale, but it is an exciting one! I was totally hooked from the first page! I loved getting to know Rowan a bit more, and I am now looking forward to reading either another novella or another novel in this fabulous series!

Stacey Rourke is a fantastic author! Her imagination has created an amazing YA series that is completely unique! She is one of my top authors on my Favourite Authors List. I will read ANY book that she writes in the future.

I recommend this book (and the whole Gryphon series so far) to everyone who likes their YA romances to be full of action, danger, wit, sarcasm and adventure! - Lynn Worton

Review:

The Lilean Chronicles:Book One ~ RedemptionThe Lilean Chronicles:Book One ~ Redemption by Merita M. King
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

I love science fiction, so when I was offered this book, I grabbed at it! I'm glad I did, because I loved it!

Farra is a human from Earth. She is a very strong character. She is very tenacious, has a will of iron and is dangerous with a knife! I liked her very much. She has been chosen for a very dangerous mission. Will she succeed?

Vincent is a very enigmatic character. I liked this character very much, but he didn't feature much in the beginning of the story. He is very much a loner, but being framed for a crime he didn't commit, he has become a fugitive.

This was an exciting read that kept me hooked from the first page! Science fiction is a subjective genre, but it allows the author to create beautiful worlds and fantastical characters. Add in a touch of suspense, and you get an adventure of galactic proportions! The author of this book has done just that. The descriptions of the characters and the environs were such that I could easily picture them. The story is told from several points of view, but Farra seems to be the main character until Vincent is brought into it. I was intrigued with Drycenian nation. They are most civilized, and are very technologically advanced compared to all the other worlds. Although, I'm not sure I approved of some of the technology used on Farra. However, I can see why they would do so, and she definitely needed the improvements to aid her mission! The King and the Prince appear to be kind and gentle, but they can be dangerous if provoked. I wouldn't want to get on their bad side!
There is a prophecy to fulfill and danger in the form of the Transmortal Army. These are a rather nasty bunch of people but, in their own way, they are pawns in a mad man's vendetta. There are plenty of twists and turns that surprised me, but there was a big one that I certainly didn't see coming! I am now looking forward to reading the next book, The Sleeping.

Merita King has written a fantastic science fiction novel that is fast paced and flows beautifully. I am now a fan of hers!

Due to some gruesome violence, I do not recommend this book for younger readers, but I highly recommend this book if you love Science Fiction. - Lynn Worton

AUTHOR BIO:

Melissa Andrea

I find it hard to sum up my life in a paragraph, but I’ll try.

I am the author of Flutter, The Discover Series! Reading has always been a passion for me, and writing as instinctive as breathing. Every inhale is an idea; every exhale a creation.  The only thing I do better than writing you ask? Making beautiful girls. My daughter’s will always be my greatest accomplishment.

I was born in Denver, Colorado–but I will always think of sunny Arizona as my home. I don’t have a big family, but I’m close with my sister, brother & my mom. My mom is my hero, my inspiration, and I couldn’t have asked for a more amazing person to be raised by.

4 things you should know about me: I’m very girly, but I can get down and dirty with the best of them. I adore the color pink and things that sparkle (including vampires), I am a firm believer that chocolate cures ALL and I like even numbers (hence 4 things about me, not 5) Okay, maybe I cheated a little with my list, shhhh.

EXCERPT:

“I’m afraid I’m going to have this hanging on my conscious all day now.” he teased.
“That only seems fair.”
“Yes it does, but I have a better suggestion.” his voice slid over my skin like silk.
“Better for whom?”
“Go out with me.”
His proposal stunned me for a second and then I found my voice.
“So better for you?”
“I like to think of it as a mutual enjoyment.”
“I fail to see how.”
He shifted, and his breath hit my face in warm puffs. “Go out with me and I’ll show you.”

Review:

The Bayshore Mysteries: (The Secret Graveyard #2).The Bayshore Mysteries: (The Secret Graveyard #2). by Jerrye Sumrall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a fantastic mystery story for middle grade children from ages 9 to 12. I loved it!

Jeff Douglas is an inquisitive and courageous young man. He may be only eleven, but he makes a pretty good detective! I liked him very much! When he goes to stay with his Great Grandfather, he doesn't realise what adventures await him!

Having previously read Intruders on Battleship Island, I was eager to read the next book in the series. The story took me into an adventure filled with history. As I am not American, the history of the slave trade and the "railroad" to freedom was extremely interesting to me. I loved how the story is woven together with a journal and a mysterious map to the Secret Graveyard - where the slaves met with sympathizers to help them escape. However, I did find that the history aspect of the story outweighed the mystery part. I would have loved to had more danger or action in this tale, to give it some "OOMPH!", but I am an adult, so what do I know! Children may enjoy this tale for what it is, an exciting adventure into history. I really enjoyed the story! I was hooked from the first page! Slavery was, and is, a terrible issue, and is still relevant today. But, the modern slave traders are extremely more sophisticated and sneaky than their predecessors, mores the pity!
I am now looking forward to reading the third book in the series, The Mystery of the Wragg Swamp.

Jerrye Sumrall has written an exciting mystery series for children that will keep them entertained and educated. She is obviously a lover of history, as it shines through her work. Her writing style is fast paced, but easy enough for young readers to read on their own.

I highly recommend this book (and series) to children between the ages of 9 to 12 who love mysteries and adventure. - Lynn Worton

Review:

The Black ShardThe Black Shard by Victoria Simcox
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

This is the second book in a fantastic series for middle grade children. I loved it!

Kristina Kingsly is a wonderful character. I really liked her when I met her in The Magic Warble. She is full of spunk and is braver than she realises. When she finds herself back in Bernovem, she is very happy, but danger lurks around the corner!

This is a fantastic sequel to the The Magic Warble. Once again, I found myself being transported to the magical land of Bernovem. I loved meeting up with some familiar faces, especially Werrien. I also loved meeting some new ones too! I missed these characters, I must say! There is something about them that has captured my heart! Although, I must admit that I have no love for Sentiz - she is her usual creepy, cruel self!
I also have no love for Hester and Davina either - they are bullies, pure and simple!
I did have one quibble with this story. It didn't seem to have the intensity of the first one. The danger was strangely distant. However, this doesn't mean that the story wasn't good - it was. It just means that the reader got to know the characters a bit more, as they journeyed to the land of Tezerel. There are also some fantastic drawings that depict specific scenes in the story. These drawings are extremely well done and show the characters and situations exactly as I envisaged.
There is a twist right at the end of the story that I didn't see coming, and it left me gasping in disbelief! I am now wanting to read the next book in the series to find out what happens next!

Victoria Simcox has written an amazing series of Children's adventure books that will enchant young readers. Her writing style is fast paced, but not overly so as to feel rushed. Her attention to detail with regards to the description of the characters, scenery and clothing is exceptional. I could "see" them so clearly in my minds eye!

I think this series is aimed at girls, but I recommend this book to everyone (adults included) who love fairies, gnomes, dwarves and talking animals in their fantasy novels. - Lynn Worton

Chap 7,  The Irgul, Excerpt

“What do you think of these fabulous outfits?” Davina said in a
dramatic voice.

“I think they’re okay,” Kristina said, but she, like Hester, felt
awkward in them.

Another knock came at the door. “You may enter,” Davina said,
while bowing to her reflection in the mirror.

It was Elzwur again. He opened the door slightly and peered
through the crack between the door and the wall. “I am waiting to
take you to the kitchen,” he said impatiently.

The girls quickly hurried out of the room, and followed Elzwur.
Davina kept in her distinguished character, holding her nose up high
and sauntering with long strides.

A gnome house maid passed by them carrying a large vase filled
with flowers, and zooming in and out of the flowers were two female
fairies, one with light blonde hair, and the other with tawny brown
hair. They were busy arranging the flowers when the blonde fairy
took notice of Kristina. She pulled at the other fairy’s arm, and then the two of them flew over to Kristina.

Book Review of Jack (Leech: Book 2) by james crawford

Synopsis:

Every high school has it's social elite; the football players and cheerleaders ... you know, the popular crowd. At Butler High, Jack Barely was as close to the top as they came. Captain of the swim team, great hair, and abs that most would die for. However, that was all before the Leeches attacked, taking away everything: his popularity, his house, his grandmother, and even his best friend, Caleo, whom he secretly loved.

Now, living in a destroyed world, popularity means nothing as Jack struggles just to keep him and his twin sister, Jillian, alive. With attacks happening more frequently, Jack starts to wonder why they are even bothering to try and hold onto the past when it just reminds him of all they have lost. Just when he has given up hope, Jack hears a rumor that Caleo is still alive and sets out on a mission to find him. But will Jack make it to finally tell Caleo how he really feels?

Review:

Jack (Leech, #2)Jack by James Crawford
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

This is the second book in the Leeches series. I loved it!

Jack Barely is a fantastic character. I loved him from when I met him in the first book, Caleo. He is a very confident young man, who usually has a great sense of humour. However, he has one regret: that he didn't tell Caleo how he felt about him.

Jillian Barely may be Jack's twin, but she is no push over! In fact, it is her strength of character that shines through in this book! I didn't really like her in Caleo, because she came across as a snob. However, I warmed to her, when I realised that it was just a front.

I have been eagerly wanting to read this book for some time now. The cliffhanger at the end of the first book saw to that! The story is a fantastic continuation of the series, but I did find that I was slightly disappointed in it too. Don't get me wrong, I loved this story, but there was something not quite right. There was something missing and the story fell flat in places, in my opinion. I have no idea why. It could be that I had expected more than I should have from the story. Sequels have to live up to their predecessors, and sometimes, for whatever reason, they don't quite get there. I'm not going to mark this down to a 4, because I feel that this book deserves it's 5.
I loved seeing the world through Jack's eyes, and it's not pretty! There is extreme danger for the humans as the two camps of Leeches face off against each other. Leeches are people with a special ability or power such as turning invisible, freezing a room full of people or turning into water to avoid capture. The way these Leeches absorb powers of other Leeches reminds me of the movie "The Highlander". However there is no lighting, but streams of power. I don't know why, but I have visions of a mercury-like substance creeping towards the recipient. The story twists and turns in places, which I loved, but there was one part that I felt that Jillian's behaviour was a bit creepy. I knew that she had been through a trauma, but even so, I found her lack of emotional response a bit unnerving! She was too "normal".
The end of the book has a shocking twist and another cliffhanger. I am now looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

james crawford has written another fast paced novel that kept me hooked from the first page! I love his writing style, it's easy to get lost in the world he has created. The characters are mostly likable, with the exception of Alix. I hope he gets his comeuppance!

This is a fantastic book in a an amazing series. I highly recommend this book if you love YA/Paranormal/Science Fiction or Gay & Lesbian genres. - Lynn Worton

AUTHOR BIO:

Although I have always enjoyed writing, the dream to become a writer came when I read A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, in the sixth grade. My early works, not published, were in the form of children’s stories I would read to my two daughters. I divide my days between the real world and the ones I’ve created. My life and my characters keep me very busy in my Mid-Western scene, where I live with my husband, and my children (both human and furry).

Up, Up and Away: The Adventures of Mrs. Hiffen-HopperUp, Up and Away: The Adventures of Mrs. Hiffen-Hopper by Carla Chadwick
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a fabulous children's picture book for children aged 2 to 8. I loved it!

Mrs. Hiffen-Hopper is a wonderful character. She is a frog who dares to dream big! She takes her children on an amazing adventure to show them that it may be scary to dream big, but taking the journey into the unknown could bring even bigger dreams to follow.

This is a fantastic tale that teaches children that it is okay to dream big. The story is short enough not to bore even the most shortest attention span, but long enough to take the child on an amazing adventure. As this is a children's book, it has some fantastically drawn illustrations. These pictures compliment the story beautifully. The colours are bright and cheerful, and will appeal to young eyes. The story can be read as a bedtime story to the younger children, but can also be read by the children when they get old enough to read for themselves, as there are no big words to confuse their developing minds. I wish I had read this book as a child!

Carla Chadwick has written a charming children's book that brought a smile to my face. I wouldn't mind reading more of her adventure series in the future.

I HIGHLY recommend this book to everyone - even those who have forgotten their dreams as they grew up! - Lynn Worton
