Ascension (Gryphon Series #4)Ascension by Stacey Rourke
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Review 6******

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

This is the fourth book in the acclaimed Gryphon series. WOW! Where do I start? I LOVED IT!!

Celeste Garrett is a fantastic character! She is wittily sarcastic, and her mouth tends to get into trouble, but I really love this person! She is the Conduit for the Gryphon, and has had to make some extremely difficult decisions to save those she loves. Now she has to make a choice between what she wants and her destiny. Which one will she chose?

First off, I would like to say that I LOVE the new covers for the series - they are fabulous!
I have been eagerly awaiting the release of this book, because I absolutely love this series! The story continues on from the end of Sacrifice and see's our heroine facing an even more challenging situation. Her heart is still heavy from losing the love of her life, and from being betrayed by one she thought to be on her side. Meanwhile, the Garrett clan are their usual selves, but I think that Gabe has grown into a wonderful man. Not that he wasn't before, but he has matured into his role as a guardian and protector. Kendall is still a girly girl, but she too has grown up slightly. Grams is a formidable woman, and I love her eccentricities. She may look garish, but she has a heart of gold under her bizarre attire (or lack of in some cases!). The Dark Army Glee Club make another appearance and had me giggling at their antics. There are some surprising twists in this tale that kept me hooked from beginning to end. This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster ride! One moment I was laughing at a witty comment, the next I was in tears due to something happening. There is an amazing battle scene that completely enthralled me! This is a fantastic tale full of intrigue, love and betrayal that is wrapped up in the guise of a YA romance. I don't know if there will be another book in the series, but I sure hope so because the ending still left me wanting more!

Stacey Rourke is one of my favourite authors. I love her writing style, which is fast paced and extremely fluid. She has truly turned me into a Condu-Nut! I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

I HIGHLY recommend this book (and series) if you love witty, sarcastic YA Romances filled with an array of various magical and mystical beings, namely lions, angels, gnomes, dragons, centaurs, demons and (of course!) Gryphons! - Lynn Worton

Release Promo & Excerpts: Joseph Fallen (A Prequel Novel to The Estate Series) by M.S. Willis

Today, I am pleased to bring you a new release: Joseph Fallen (A Prequel Novel to The Estate Series) by M.S. Willis.

Book Description:

There is a fine line between genius and madness…
Between love and hate,
Between right and wrong.

Joseph had created The Estate for her…
His wife,
The woman he chose to bear his child.
She was beauty unsurpassed;
And her song was unlike anything he’d ever known.

However, their love was a story that would not find a happy ending.

In this prequel novel to the Estate series, follow Joseph Carmichael as he creates a world unlike any other. Because, in order to comprehend The Estate, you must understand Joseph; but, in order to understand Joseph, you must discover how a man falls from light into the pitch black depths of ultimate darkness.

Excerpt #1:
He stood motionless around her, the heat of his body, his scent, bathing her as she waited – the broken promise and the reminder of who her husband had been was dangled before her in that moment, a dream she would never capture again.  He looked like Joseph, smelled like him, carried the same unspoken power and assurance – but he was no longer the man she’d believe him to be.
His jaw ticked, and when his sculpted lips finally opened, his voice brushed against her, seductive as silk, while, at the same time, sharp as the most lethal of blades.
The words spoken were so slow, so frightfully controlled, that there was no doubt they were the undeniable truth.  “When I married you, and on our wedding night, I promised you two things, Arianna – that you were mine and that I would do whatever was necessary to give you everything you could ever want.”  His eyes closed as he winced, his face appearing to battle against pain of the thoughts pounding against his skull.  “I have not broken those promises, so do not break yours. Do not threaten to leave me again.  There is no where on this Earth that you could run, that I would not hunt you down, find you, and drag you back here, chained if need be, to where you belong.”
His eyes opened.
“You are mine and I will not allow you to leave.  While I’m gone, I will leave Connor to watch over you.  He is loyal to me and will prevent any escape you attempt if you are foolish enough to try.  There is no escape from me, Arianna. You WILL accept what I have done.”

Excerpt #2:
With his mouth pressed against hers, he demanded, “Tell me who owns you, Arianna; tell me to whom you belong.”
Her lips parted, her breath stolen by the beat of his body against hers.  A disjointed whisper, she responded, “You, Joseph…I belong to you.”
A final assault inside her and they both screamed out their release, the water cascading around them, the steam of its heat coloring their skin.  His forehead fell down on hers once more when he peeked at her from underneath his water soaked lashes.
“Yes, Arianna – and you must never forget it.”

Review:

WitchHuntWitchHunt by Emma Mills
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

This is the fourth and final book in the WitchBlood series. I loved it!

Jess James is a fabulous character. She is one of the strongest (emotionally and physically) heroines that I have come across in a book. She has grown up a lot from the first story, and is a very powerful opponent - being a vampire and a witch. However, she has to face an even more challenging mission - tracking down her best friend.

This story hooked me from the first page! I struggled to put the book down! I must admit that I have missed these characters, as they have become friends. Even Saffy has grown on me, as she finally accepts Jess's mixed vampire/witch status and dials down the jealousy. The coven of vampires are a formidable force, but a coven of witches are just as deadly! Jess has a foot in both worlds, which comes in handy when you have a deadly foe after you. Mary is insane with grief, and has a plan that could mean the end of the Malden coven line. With lots of twists and turns, the story unfolds. I was a little disappointed in the storyline with regards to Alex, and (I am trying not to give anything away here!) I would have liked a different outcome. Nevertheless, the daemon at the end of the story certainly revved up the adrenaline factor! As this is the final book in the series, it is a bittersweet tale for me, but I am looking forward to reading more books from this author in the future.

Emma Mills has written a fast paced story that flows beautifully. It is also a masterpiece of originality. I have never read anything like it before.

I highly recommend this YA Paranormal Romance if you love stories with vampires, witches and angels. - Lynn Worton

Book Review of Fury of Ice (Dragonfury Series #2) by Coreene Callahan

Synopsis:

Homicide detective Angela Keen thrives on the city’s rough streets. But when she becomes the prize of all prizes in the dragon-shifter world due to her “high-energy” status, she gets more than she bargained for. Kidnapped by Lothair of the Razorback clan, Angela barely survives captivity before managing to escape. Hurt and alone with nowhere to hide, she faces certain death when Lothair uses the trace energy she leaves in her wake to hunt her down. But before he can reach her, a mystery dragon-shifter intervenes and saves Angela’s life.

Now a guest of the Nightfury clan, Angela regains her strength as her rescuer, Rikar, the last living frost dragon, gradually breaks down her mistrust. Surrendering to her desire for Rikar, but still uncertain of her feelings, Angela goes against his wishes and agrees to be used as bait to lure Lothair into the open. As the battle commences, the true struggle comes from within: Will Angela return home to the life she loves, or forsake it all to be with Rikar?

Review:

Fury of Ice (Dragonfury, #2)Fury of Ice by Coreene Callahan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book in the Dragonfury Series. I loved it!

Angela Keen is a fantastic character. She is a very strong willed, independent woman, who knows what she wants. She is a homicide detective, on the trail of a serial killer. I liked her when I met her in Fury of Fire. It was nice to get to know her better.

Rikar is a fantastic character too. He is second in command to the Nightfury leader, and a frost dragon with amazing powers. He is charismatic, but slightly taciturn. He has the alpha male vibe going on, which I love!

I got a copy of this in audio book, so I could listen to it whilst doing chores. It was narrated by the same person who narrated Fury of Fire. Benjamin L. Darcie did a fantastic job reading this story. His narration brought the characters to life.

The story sort of follows on from Fury of Fire, but introduces new characters and has a slightly different plot line, but with a common thread weaving through the tale. This gives the series a feeling of continuation. I was hooked from the first line! It was an exciting and riveting read! I really enjoyed meeting a few more of the Nightfuries. These characters are just as hot as Rikar and Bastian, and I am looking forward to reading their stories in the future. Especially Mac's, Venom's and Forge's.
Lothair is the second in command of the Razorbacks, and is not a very nice person/dragon. He made my skin crawl!
Ivar (leader of the Razorbacks) is just as sick, if not sicker, and is still doing his mad scientist experiments.

The story is full of twists and turns, and has another fantastic battle scene (or two) which I could picture with ease. The descriptions of which was vivid and rather violent, but what else could it be when there are dragons involved? The story is told from several points of view, which made it a very interesting read. I must admit that I am not overly fond of swearing in media, and rarely if ever swear myself, but the f-bombs were only slightly less noticeable in this story. Although, it could be that I was becoming desensitized. I hope not, because sometimes there is no need for use of excessive swearing in books, or in life. I believe that using foul language is a lazy way of speaking, and shows a lack of vocabulary. Others may disagree with me, but this is just my opinion. Foul language notwithstanding, I am looking forward to reading/listening to Fury of Seduction, the next book in the series.

Coreene Callahan has written a fast paced, sexy paranormal romance that kept me hooked from the first page!

Due to the use of foul language and the explicit sexual scenes, I do not recommend this book for younger readers. However, if you love hot and spicy paranormal romances, then this book is for you! - Lynn Worton

An intricate pattern of colorful tattoos decorated both of his arms. It was a mural of his life—stars that intertwined with musical notes; guitars interlocked into microphones; nude, big breasted angels riding hulky demons. Those arms and that face had adorned the covers of magazines for years. Now he represented a legend of rock history. To obtain his interview would mean lots of money and skilled maneuvering through his agent, publicist, bodyguards, entourage, and any of the other people that walled him away from society.

Re-Release: Reclaim My Heart (A Montlake Romance Title) by Donna Fasano

 photo DFRerelBanner_zpscb177693.jpg

Now with Montlake Romance - Release Day TODAY 12 November, 2013
On becoming a Montlake Author:
Let me tell you about my wonderful publishing experience! I have to back up a little bit… to this past spring. I self-published a romance titled Reclaim My Heart. The book received great reviews immediately, and it sold well from the beginning. Very well. In fact, during the first week of August I was enjoying a mug of coffee while perusing the USA Today Bestseller's List (my usual Thursday morning routine), and I nearly choked when I saw that Reclaim My Heart was sitting at #123 on the list. A couple of days later I was contacted by an editor from Montlake. She told me she'd read one of my books months before and had been keeping an eye on me. She said she'd read Reclaim My Heart and loved it. Now, what author doesn't love to hear that? She made an offer I couldn't refuse. The Montlake editor and the design team loved the cover that was on the indie version of the book; however, Amazon had trouble licensing the rights to the image. So we searched for weeks before finding the picture that's on the current cover. I love it! And I hope my readers do, too. I'm happy to be writing romance novels for Montlake. I feel wanted and appreciated, and it can't get much better than that in the publishing industry!
~Donna

About The Book : Sixteen years ago, Tyne Whitlock cut all ties to her past and left town under the shameful shadow of a teenage pregnancy. Now her fifteen-year-old son is in trouble with the law, and she is desperate for help. But reaching out to high-powered attorney Lucas Silver Hawk will tear open the heart-wrenching past in ways Tyne never imagined. Forced to return to the Delaware Indian community where Lucas was raised, Tyne and Lucas are tempted by the heated passion that consumed them as teens. Tyne rediscovers all the reasons she found this man irresistible, but there are scandalous secrets waiting to be revealed, disgraceful choices made in the past that cannot be denied. Love is a powerful force that could heal them both—if the truth doesn't rip them apart.
Excerpt
From Chapter Two"Please, Lucas." He couldn't dismiss the tone of those two small words, nor could he ignore the magnitude of emotion clouding her expression. He had no choice but to relent. "Sit down," he murmured. He closed the door of his office and then returned to perch himself on the corner of his desk. He steeled himself before asking, "What's on your mind?" She seemed to shrink a little as a thousand thoughts ran though her head. Seconds passed, and still she didn't speak. Lucas witnessed the phenomenon almost on a daily basis. The people who wound up in his office often felt as if they were carrying the world on their shoulders. He knew her anxiety would eventually discharge, and from the looks of it, he wouldn't have to wait long. Finally, she pressed her hand to her chest. "I can't breathe." "Relax. Do you want some water?" She shook her head, a lock of her long, platinum hair falling over her forearm. "No. I need to get this out. I promised you I'd hurry." He couldn't keep his brows from arching a fraction. She hadn't kept her promises in the past. Why would he expect her to now? Tyne ran her tongue along her full bottom lip, hesitated another moment, then blurted, "I need a lawyer." Lucas closed his eyes and stifled a sigh. He could have guessed as much, of course. He'd worked hard to get himself into the privileged position of being able to pick and choose his clients. The last person he wanted to represent was Tyne Whitlock. "A good lawyer, Lucas." Common sense told him Tyne wasn't attempting to flatter him. She was speaking purely out of desperation. "Look, Tyne—" Something made him stop. He sighed, and then he stood, taking his time rounding his desk and sitting down. The leather-upholstered arms of the chair were cool and smooth under his fingertips. "I know some of the best attorneys in the city." He plucked a pen from the cup on his desktop. "And many of them owe me a favor or two." He reached into his inside jacket pocket, pulled out one of the business cards he always kept handy, and turned it over, poised to write. "Let me give you some names and numbers—" "I don't want just any attorney." Her chin lifted. "I want you. Why else would I have come here?" His gaze lowered to the small white card in his hand. With much deliberation, he set down the pen and the card, and then he looked her directly in the eyes. Every muscle in her body appeared board-stiff. "Listen to me—" he kept his tone calm "—when people find themselves in trouble with the law, or victimized, or wrongfully sued, or unjustly accused, they tend to get lost in a strange, I don't know, franticness. A recklessness that they almost always regret. Believe me when I tell you that no situation is hopeless, and circumstances are rarely as desperate as they might be perceived. Whatever trouble you're in, don't let panic and fear haze your thinking." "You don't understand." "I think I do," he rushed to assure her. "I see it every day. Honest, hardworking people finding themselves in dire straits. And this unfamiliar territory throws them. They grasp at help from the first source that comes to mind." "But—" "Just like that old adage warning that only a fool acts as his own lawyer, it's also foolish to choose an attorney in haste. You and I have a past, Tyne, and even though all of that took place years and years ago, the fact remains that we have a history. I don't believe I would be the best person to represent you in a court of law. You need someone who'll be totally unbiased. Let me give you some names. I'll make some calls for you myself—" "Stop!" She lifted her hands and scooted to the edge of the seat. "You don't understand. And I can't make you understand if you won't shut up for a minute." His eyebrows arched and the frustration in her statement had him leaning back a bit. She frowned. "I'm sorry. Really, I am. I had to stew all day yesterday." She fisted her hands in her lap. "I didn't expect to reach anyone on a Sunday, but do you know that your firm doesn't offer an emergency number on the answering machine?" She exhaled with force. "I'm a nervous wreck just being here. Seeing you. But all that aside, I shouldn't have snapped at you. Please accept my apology." He didn't react, didn't move. He just waited for her to continue. "The thing is… what you need to know…" Once again, she grew terribly cautious, and Lucas found that extremely curious. What the hell was it she found so hard to tell him? What kind of trouble was she in? She blanched, but then her spine straightened. "I'm not the one who needs a lawyer. I want to hire you, yes. But I'm not the one needing representation. It's my son who's in trouble." A nerve at the corner of her eye ticked, but her gaze never veered from his as she added, "Our son, Lucas."
