This is a chilling horror story. I loved it!

Kate Spradlin is a character I neither liked nor disliked. She came across as rather ordinary and boring at first. However, she has a deep secret hidden in a past that is not so happy. But destiny (or is it fate?) will bring her and Carl to an old house where evil lurks.

Carl Spradlin is Kate's husband. He is a wonderful character. I liked him a lot more than Kate. I don't really know why. I just felt that he is a good man, who is willing to work hard to provide for his family.

This is a genre that I very rarely read. However, I had the opportunity to help edit a rough draft of this book, and wanted to see what the finished article looked like.
When I first read that rough draft, I had felt chills run up and down my spine, but reading the final story had the hair standing up on the back of my neck.

This story is told through various characters' points of view, which I really enjoyed. The story is peppered with weird and wonderful characters. Alfred Packer is one of the first serial killers and lived in Williamsburg in 1887. His exploits are rather gruesome, and some of the details of his actions are a little graphic. Therefore, readers beware. He is the original owner of the house which Carl and Kate move into.
I really didn't like Rex Fontaine, Kate's ex. He is a creepy character, who is obsessed with his former wife. He is incredibly cruel and abusive. However, I felt his character could have been utilised better by the author as the story progressed. Nevertheless, his presence is chilling and carries a menace that had me sitting on the edge of my seat, wondering what he was planning next. I really liked Mrs. Goddard, she is a wonderfully sharp character whose feud with one of the ladies from the Historical Society called Jane Dillard made me smile, though it's no laughing matter. Secrets are revealed and lives are in danger, but watching Kate grow into her potential as a powerful witch has been an adventure that I wouldn't have missed for all the world.

The difference between the rough draft and the complete story is amazing. The story has changed in various ways, but also remains the same. There are several twists and turns which were not in the original draft I read, and I found myself swept into a story that is suspenseful, atmospheric and chilling. The ending has a twist that definitely sent a shiver down my back. I wonder if we've seen the last of Alfred Packer?

Brad Lee Hayword has written a chilling debut horror story. His writing style is not particularly fast paced, but his ability to describe scenes with such clarity made the story stand out. The flow of the story could have been a little better, as some of the scene changes (I feel) caused the pacing to be a little jerky. I found this story to be highly entertaining, though there is room for improvement, and I am looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Due to scenes of violence which are on the graphic side, I do not recommend this book to young readers, or those of a nervous disposition. I do, however, highly recommend this book if you love classic dark thriller or horror genres. - Lynn Worton

She looked up, stunning him with her gorgeous smile. “I’m free all weekend. Oh, God, I didn’t mean that I want, or that I meant…” Cammie’s face scrunched up. “Dang it, I’m messing this all up. I meant to say, that I don’t have to work next weekend at all. What did you have in mind?”

Stifling a laugh, Keanu squeezed her hand. “I was thinking that maybe we could go for a picnic and do some hiking. I haven’t roamed the forests around here in years, and you said you still like to climb trees.”

“I’ll never live that down.” She covered her face with one hand. “Do you know my mother still teases me about that? And to add insult to injury, I had to wear a stupid boot thingy, all because I’d bruised several bones.”

“No shit? I’m glad I insisted on carrying you all the way home. You could’ve seriously injured yourself.”

Cammie peeked at him from between her fingers. “Well you did, and I’m fine, so let’s pretend it didn’t happen.” She cringed, her embarrassment clear to see.

Keanu loved the blush that stole up her neck and into her face. Thinking about Cammie blushing as he made her come had his comfy jeans a little tight. He shifted in his seat, adjusting himself discreetly.

He reached across the small space and tugged her hand away from her gorgeous face. “Thank you for having dinner with me. Would you like some dessert?”

“I couldn’t eat another bite.” She rubbed her stomach. “I had a really great time tonight.”

“You sound surprised.” He smiled and watched her yawn again. “I did, too. Are you ready?” At her nod he motioned for the check.

He paid the bill and waved the waiter away, telling him to keep the change. When Cammie made a move to get up, Keanu stood and pulled her chair out, placing his hand at the small of her back. He didn’t miss the way her body shivered; it was a feeling he wholeheartedly agreed with. The small gesture caused flames to lick up his torso. He banked down the internal heat, leading her out to her car.

“Did I tell you that I love your Jeep?”

She turned to look at him. “You do, huh? Would you like to drive her next weekend?”

Keanu groaned. “Please tell me you didn’t give her, and I stress her, some silly name?”

“I did not name her something silly.” She waited a beat. “Her name is…wait for it, wait for it…Lightning.”

The little minx was laughing at him, and damn if he didn’t enjoy it. “Like Lightning McQueen?” he joked.

“No, like the lightning in the sky.” Cammie slapped his arm. “She’s a big bolt of it.”

“I like that a lot. Lightning and thunder are my favorite parts of a storm.”

“Mine, too.”

When they reached her vehicle, Keanu turned her to face him, smiling down at her upturned face. He traced her bow-shaped mouth with the tip of his finger. Keeping her anchored to him with one arm, he wrapped the other around her waist, loving how she fit perfectly to him. He gave her plenty of time to reject his kiss. Seeing her eyes close, and feeling her body molding to his was his undoing.

Keanu meant to take it slow, to give her a light, almost friendly kiss. But having her softness, against all his hardness, sent him reeling, and devouring her mouth became his goal.

Cammie wrapped her arms around his shoulders. In her three-inch wedge espadrilles, she reached his chin, making them a perfect match. His tongue invaded her mouth, tangling with her own, the taste of the spicy food they had eaten exploding in her mouth, like another sweet temptation.

She sucked in a breath, aching from the kiss, her heart thudding with excitement at her first real taste of him.

He gentled the kiss, brushing his mouth lightly over her parted lips, then nipped her bottom one. Cammie felt the tremor that wracked his large frame, happy to realize that she wasn’t the only one affected.

She had known since the age of twelve that this man was it for her. I’m a wife and mother who is a retired stay at home mom of 2. I say retired because my youngest is 14 and my oldest is 20. When my baby went to school, reading saved my sanity, and then the same year he started school, I was diagnosed with Cancer, again reading saved my sanity. When I recovered and realized how quickly life could change, I made a bucket list. The number one thing was to live. Check. On top of that list was to become a published author. Check. Eight years later I have accomplished that goal and several others.

I live in the Midwest, but I”m a southern girl with only a slight twang who says y’all quite frequently, and am known to say “Bless Your Heart” A LOT. If you know what that means, you do not want to be the one I say that to, lol. I cuss worse than if a trucker and a sailor were put together, but I do it with class *WEG*.

I write what I love to read, erotic romance. My books are definitely full of lots of story, but I leave nothing to the imagination in or out of the bedroom. My hope is that after readers have read one of my stories, they fall in love with the characters as much as I have.

Entwined by Elisabeth Naughton

This is the second book in the Eternal Guardians series. I loved it!

My sister recommended this series to me as she had read them all (that have been released so far) and thought I would enjoy it, and she was right! I downloaded this as an audiobook, as I had previously enjoyed listening to the first book in the series, Marked, in audiobook too. Entwined is again narrated by Elizabeth Wiley. She did another fantastic job in telling the story. Her narration was crystal clear and her interpretation of the characters brought them to life.

Zander is an interesting character. I really liked him, but he has a serious issue with self-pity at first, which I found a bit off putting for a hero. He is one of the oldest of the Argonaughts and, as he is from Achilles bloodline, believes himself to be immortal. Nevertheless, as the story progresses, he pulls his head out of his you-know-what and is actually a great person to know, who realises that everyone has their weakness and his happens to be his soul mate.

Callia is a wonderful character. She is the King's physician and has the power to heal. I really liked this strong willed woman. She has had to endure a lot over the last ten years, but her spirit has not been broken. But when Zander volunteers to marry Isadora, her world comes crashing down around her ears.

This story is another roller coaster ride, full of action, adventure and danger. Adalanta is busy preparing her demons for war with the Argonaughts, and has a secret weapon in her arsenal, though he's not very willing. This secret weapon is a young boy by the name of Max, who is ten years old. I really liked Max. He is a very resourceful young man, who has had to endure years of abuse and cruelty at the hands of Adalanta, and has had to do some terrible things to survive. His courage and determination to escape his "Mataras" to find his real mother had me cheering him on. Callia also finds out a secret about herself which, although it surprised her, didn't really surprise me. But it made me look at the King in a slightly different light!

As the story progressed, I fell in love with all of the Argonaught warriors, and the story in general. This is a fast paced, action packed adventure from beginning to end.
As I said in my review for Marked, "This story is mostly a typical paranormal romance, with lots of action and danger mixed in. However, there are several twists and turns that keep one guessing at what is really going on.", but after listening to this story I realised that there is a bigger story arc within each storyline, and I am looking forward to finding out what that story arc will reveal. One thing I will say about this story (and series) is the world building is excellent. The characters are well developed and extremely lifelike. I have always been intrigued with Greek gods and their offspring such as Hercules, whose exploits became legend (or are they myth?) over time. So reading about his descendants, who were with Jason on his voyage for the Golden Fleece, excites me. I am also a huge sucker for paranormal romances in general, so I am looking forward to continuing with this series and I will (hopefully) get to read/listen to Tempted as soon as I can.

Elisabeth Naughton has written an exciting paranormal romance series. I love her fast paced writing style and the flow is wonderful. I will be continuing to read this series, but I do have one of her romantic suspense novels sitting on my Kindle, which I hope to now read in the near future too!

Due to scenes of a sexual nature that are on the explicit side, I do not recommend this book for younger readers. However, I highly recommend this book if you love erotic paranormal romances. - Lynn Worton
