Kissed by a Dark Prince (Eternal Mates #1)Kissed by a Dark Prince by Felicity E. Heaton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first book in a new series called Eternal Mates, written by one of my favourite authors. I loved it!

Olivia is a character that I grew to like. I wasn't sure if I liked her at first, because she came across as a bit weak and whiny. However, she finds her backbone, and my respect for her grew. She is a human scientist, but when she meets Loren, sparks fly!

Loren is a fantastic character. He is an Elfin Prince and a fierce warrior. He is very much an alpha type male, with a strong protective streak and a huge ego to boot! I really liked this character. He has a wicked sense of humour under that armour he wears, as well as a strong code of honour.

This looks like it's going to be another fantastic series! I love the way the characters interact with each other. Loren has a best friend that I am REALLY wanting to know better! *wink, wink, nudge, nudge!* Blue sounds like a great man to know. He compliments his Prince by being the practical no-nonsense go-to guy when trouble brews. That doesn't mean that Loren is a slouch in that department, but when his emotions concerning his brother, Vail, cloud his judgment, Blue is the one to keep him grounded.
Sable is Olivia's best friend and a Hunter; one of the elite warriors working for Archangel, which is an organisation that polices the paranormal citizens living on Earth. I liked this character too, as she is most definitely feisty! Her "shoot first, take prisoners second" attitude made me smile for some unknown reason. A weird reaction, I know, but there you have it!.

The story gripped me from the first page, and I loved the way the author has created a whole new dimension to explore! When I read that Loren was Elfin, I was expecting a "Legolas" type of character. Nope! Not even close! Think beefier and (if at all possible) sexier!
The elfin world is not as thoroughly described as I would have liked, but what was described intrigued me! A realm within a realm, Loren's home is an oasis in a dark and dangerous world.
There is a cameo appearance by some familiar vampires and a succubus from the Vampire Erotic Theatre series, but it's so short if you blinked, you'd miss it! Nevertheless, I am looking forward to meeting them again in later books. There is also one similarity to the Vampire Erotic Theatre series in this one; there is a character that is seriously dangerous. Vail has been at war with his brother for millennia. However, all is not as it seems, and I am looking forward to reading his story. I'm just not sure that Snow will appreciate the competition!

Felicity Heaton has written another fast paced, sexy paranormal romance that I thoroughly enjoyed! She is on the top of my favourite authors list and I

I do not recommend this book to younger readers due to the extremely HOT and explicit bedroom scenes. However, I highly recommend this book (and series) if you love sexy paranormal romances full of vampires, elves, werewolves, succubi, incubi and demons. - Lynn Worton

Book Promo, Excerpt & Character Interview: Spirits of Christmas by Nicky Wells

Today, I am excited and pleased to bring you an exciting new book by author Nicky Wells called Spirits of Christmas.  Please find all the details, and a special guest interview with one of the stars of the book, Jude Shaw, below - plus an excerpt to whet the appetite! Rock on!

Synopsis:

Spirits of Christmas: A Rock’n’Roll Christmas Carol

At one time, up-and-coming rock singer Jude had it all: a great band, a platinum record, a loving girlfriend. This Christmas, however, he is well down the road towards spontaneous self-destruction.

Unwitting at first, Jude has progressively alienated his band and driven away the love of his life. Tonight, the night before Christmas Eve, he has broken the final taboo during a disastrous gig. Yet Jude doesn’t see how badly his life has derailed, not until a ghostly procession of legends passes through his bedroom with a series of vivid and powerful wake-up calls.

Will the Spirits help Jude put the friendship, love, and rock music back into his Christmas?

Spirits of Christmas is a modern-day rock’n’roll adaption of Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol. This novella will enchant romance readers, rock lovers, fans of ghost stories, and everybody who adores the festive season.

EXCERPT

‘Hiya, Jude!’
The voice emerged from the door, and Jude’s head whipped round as if drawn by a string.
‘Hiya, Jude,’ the voice repeated cheerfully. Unexpectedly, it launched into the first line of one of Jude’s most favourite songs. Jude once again sank onto the bed, his legs refusing to carry him with the shock of this second apparition.
‘Is this really you?’
For a moment, Jude’s second otherworldly visitor abandoned his song and remained silent, motionless, allowing Jude to take a good, long look. The sideburns, the nose, the defined chin, the round glasses were clearly visible despite the spirit’s transparent appearance. Everything about this figure was familiar, yet nothing was quite as it should have been. It was as though Jude was looking at a hologram, a distorted, stretched vision where nothing quite fitted together.
Nonetheless, Jude found his voice. ‘Oh my God, it is you!’
Excitement made his exclamation strong and clear. The figure flinched at the sudden burst of noise, but Jude ploughed on. ‘This is…this is totally unreal. I mean, imagine this—here’s me in my bedroom, and there’s you, come to visit me.’
‘I’m not who you think you see,’ the apparition interrupted. ‘I’m the Ghost of Christmas Past.’

Special Guest Interview:

Lynn: Here today to talk about a Christmas experience with a difference is none other than Jude Shaw, lead singer of UK rock band, The Blood Roses. Jude… I hear you had a pretty tough time last Christmas. What happened?

Jude: *clears his throat and looks shifty* Well, Lynn… um. Let’s just say I went off the rails a bit. Okay, a lot. I lost the plot. Completely.

Lynn: How come?

Jude: Well, I kind of had this idea in my head that I knew all about being a rock star. That I was a genius. That everyone else had it in for me. That my girlfriend stopped loving me and was letting herself go a bit. You know, that kind of stuff. I was arrogant and conceited and completely misguided.

Lynn: And?

Jude: I was on the brink of losing everything. And I mean, everything.

Lynn: How did you figure that out?

Jude: I didn't, and that’s the really terrifying thing. I was so blinded, I didn't have a clue what I was doing. Until…

Lynn: Yes?

Jude: Do you believe in ghosts? Guiding spirits? That kind of thing? No, don’t answer that. Most people don’t. I know I didn't. I’d have consigned myself to the loony bin if I’d started talking about ghosts. But that night…that night before Christmas Eve. Wow. I sure changed my mind. I still don’t quite know what happened, but it changed my life.

Lynn: *flicks through the pages of a book until she finds the right page.* It says here that you had a visit from the Ghost of Forewarning…

Jude: Indeed.

Lynn: Wow. That’s quite something else. What did you think when he turned up in your bedroom?

Jude: *laughs uncertainly* I thought I’d gone off my rocker. To start with, I thought I was dreaming. I kept thinking, you gotta be kidding me. Then I thought I was going mad. But I soon found out I wasn't. That…apparition, well, he could do stuff. You know, I couldn't touch him, but he could certainly touch me. And take me places, like, in my past. And he knew things about me that nobody could know. I was totally freaked out. I don’t want to give away anymore because I don’t want to spoil the story for anyone. But believe me, folks, it was surreal. Untrue. Inspiring. Amazing. Uplifting, in every sense of the word. And it changed my life.

Lynn: Speaking of life… what’s next for you?

Jude: Great question. Well, The Blood Roses are writing again. We got signed by Dan Hunter, and things are looking up, for sure. We've got a tour in the works just as soon as the next album is recorded. Oh and… well… I’m going to be a dad again, of course. That’s pretty scary.

Lynn: I know! Congratulations! Do you know if it’s a boy or a girl yet?

Jude:  No idea. A little brother for Nate would be wonderful, but then again, so would a little sister.

Lynn: You’ll have to come back and tell us all about it. Now then… the quick fire round. You ready?

Jude: I’m ready.

Favorite Christmas rock song? Oooh Wizzard, Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday
Favorite Christmas tradition? Trimming the tree. Carrie and I, we make a special bauble each year now… it’s awesome.
Tea or coffee? Tea.
Fish’n’chips, or steak? Pizza. Sorry to be awkward.
Jeans or leathers? Leathers. There’s something about the feel of leather, it’s very… sensuous.

Yesterday, today, or tomorrow. Today. You can fix yesterday’s mistakes and prevent future disasters, but you've got to do it now. Oops, that’s rather deep. You could say I learned my lesson well, right?

Lynn: *laughs* Yes, you could. But I love it. Thanks for visiting, Jude!

Jude: Thank for inviting me. Have a rocking Christmas season!

Lynn: My pleasure! Thanks, you too!

*******************

Inspiration for Spirits of Christmas…

Writing this novella was a bit of an inevitability for me, all things considered. If you don’t already know me, you have to understand that I simply love rock music. Rock musicians are like Viagra for my soul. I’m also a sucker for romance and a good old-fashioned happy ending. Moreover, I love the Christmas season: the lights, the sweets, the laughter. Combining all those things ~ rock, romance, and Christmas ~ was one of the most delightful writing projects of my career so far!

The idea for this book came to me the very night after I launched my second book, Sophie’s Run, in February of this year. I was hyped up with excitement, I had finished writing my third book and was waiting for publisher edits, and I had already planned my fourth full-length novel. I was utterly and completely unable to sleep with everything that was going on, and quite unexpectedly, the whole story was in my head. Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is one of my favourite Christmas stories both in the original and its many varied adaptations. I suddenly thought… why not bring it into the rock’n’roll domain?

My wonderful husband, Jon, was somewhat taken aback when I presented him with this plan the following morning.

‘I’m going to write a Christmas novella,’ I said.

‘But you've got another book launch in September, and you've planned your fourth book already—how’s this going to fit in?’ he responded enthusiastically, if pragmatic.

‘I’ll figure it out.’

And so I did. It took me just over a week to write the first draft in May 2013, and another few weeks here and there to tweak, fine-tune and polish it over the following months. But here it is. Spirits of Christmas. I hope you enjoy!

Book Review of Alien Species Intervention: Books 1-3 (Species Intervention #6609) by J.K. Accinni

Synopsis:

Two hundred years of tender love between man and alien, political downfalls, wanton violence of unspeakable order tempered with laughter, family loyalty and hope is the thrilling vehicle by which Ms. Accinni conveys her cautionary tale of the merciless disrespect man gives his planet and the vulnerable creatures entrusted to him.

This charming, yet brutal saga will chill and surprise you as it foretells the selfishly destructive path man has followed since his species evolved. It pulls no punches while allowing Netty and Baby's influence to transcend mortal life as the world dances toward depraved indifference, introducing other characters along the ride that readers will laugh and shed tears with, and learn to despise.

"Baby" introduces Netty, a naive teenage farm girl given in marriage to an older brutal opportunist disguised as a successful citizen during the years of Prohibition in Sussex County, New Jersey. After years of enslavement, Netty flees into the night from her rapist and bootlegger husband, traveling back to the farm worked by her parents, where she rescues an unfamiliar damaged creature she finds in a cave in the woods of her childhood, falling in love with the enigmatic alien she names Baby. Together they find happiness and fulfillment
despite the changes to Netty's body wrought by the proximity of the unusual creature.

Damaged by entry into our atmosphere while pregnant, the confused creature forgets the purpose of his mission, appearing unconcerned with the disappearance of his offspring and savoring the unexpected joy of the love he shares with young Netty.

When a handsome Italian stranger comes into Netty's life, complications ensue as she falls in love while trying to hide the bizarre and wondrous changes to her farm and her body. Netty, Baby and Wil strive to conquer obstacles thrown in their path by life, succeeding wildly until the heart-rending and astonishingly brutal climax to their story.

What lengths will Baby and his offspring go to complete their mission? Will it spell Armageddon for the beleaguered planet with its vulnerable and exploited creatures or will man tip the scales himself, leaving those that love the creatures to salvage the pitiful ruins?

In "Echo", Netty's influence transcends a full century as the United States evolves to a point of politically driven economic collapse. The year is 2033 as a young mother, abused by her shiftless husband, heroically decides to remove her two sickly children, Scotty and Abby, from the mean streets of their government subsidized tenement town of Short Hills, New Jersey to the hills and old farmland of Sussex County. There they unite with a Latino family that adopted Jose, a young boy from Costa Rica, traumatized at the age of seven by the brutal murder of his parents and the kidnapping of his infant sister.

The two families unite to pool finances, creating the love and bonds that will enable them to survive the psychotic attention of Armoni, a soul damaged beyond redemption, discovery of Baby's miraculous offspring, Echo; and their subsequent body changes. Through the efforts of Echo who develops an unexplained passion for the curly haired dog, Barney, they flee the clutches of Armoni after the murder of Armoni's sidekicks by Echo, to Sarasota, Florida, one of the last remaining enclaves of wealth in the U.S.

Scotty learns to utilize Echo as a co-conspirator in his intrigue to thwart the efforts of heinous people that prey on the lives of creatures in their environmentally rich new home, where the insidious miscreant, Armoni, tracks them; bringing brutality and violence to all.Having fallen in love, the young Abby and Jose draw close, only to be separated by the transcendental Netty, who tries to use Abby as a conduit in her plan to rescue as much wildlife as they can before despicable political events bring on the specter of Armageddon...

Alien Species Intervention Books 1-3Alien Species Intervention Books 1-3 by J.K. Accinni
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Review 6******

This is an anthology of three of the six books from the Species Intervention #6609 series. I absolutely LOVE this series, so when I found out the author was combining her books into an anthology, I jumped at the chance to get a copy!

"Baby" is the first book and introduces us to Netty, Wil and Baby. Their story is far from a happy one, but had me completely gripped from beginning to end! It is a dark tale of violence and abuse, but there is something about this book that made me fall in love with it!

"Echo" is the second book and moves forward 100 years into the future, introducing new characters and new terrors. Again, this story is just as dark and disturbing, if not more so, and although I was disgusted by some events, I was completely enthralled!

"Armageddon Cometh" is the third book and continues the darkly violent theme, but it is not as severe or shocking as the previous two books. That being said, I still had the "rabbit in the headlights" feeling whilst reading the story.

This is a great way to get to read this fantastic science fiction/dystopian/post-apocalyptic series, but be warned, it is not for the feint of heart! There is violence and sexual abuse, as well as foul language that may disturb some readers. However, the author has woven a tale that contains a message that is close to my own heart; that all life is precious and if we want to see our children's children's children's children inherit this planet we call home, we have to take better care of it, or face possible extinction by our own hands (or alien ones!). In fact, I'm seriously considering jumping ship and joining up with Baby and Echo's mission!
That being said, this is a fantastic series that has stayed with me long after I finished the books. There are plenty of twists and turns, surprises and a plethora of emotions to contend with whilst reading these books. I am looking forward to reading the last three books in the next anthology.

J.K. Accinni is definitely on my favourite authors list. Her writing style is fast paced and extremely descriptive. I could easily picture these characters - Armoni *Shudder* (not saying anymore!) - and places in my mind.

I do not recommend this series to younger readers due to the violence and the language, but I highly recommend this book (and series) if you love Science Fiction, Dystopian or Post-Apocalyptic Fiction. - Lynn Worton

Solstice (Solstice Chronicles #1)Solstice by Bryan W. Dull
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

ARC Review

Gavin Moxley is a vampire hunter, and hunts vampires who have yet to fully transform. These vampires have been infected with the deadly AIDS virus by a vampire who is purposely infecting people and turning them. Whilst on a hunt, he meets Solstice, a half breed vampire child, who asks for his help and protection. Gavin unwillingly takes Solstice into his care, in exchange for information on the infected vampires.
Solstice's existence is rare, and she is wanted by the vampires for her "ability" to walk in sunlight. Can Gavin and Solstice evade their pursuers long enough to survive?

This is a fantastic story that does not sugar coat vampires, and shows them as the monsters they are. This story gripped me from the first page! There are some gruesome scenes that are not for the faint hearted. I loved the father/daughter dynamic between Gavin and Solstice.
Having lost his family to a gruesome murder, Gavin goes on a one man crusade to rid the world of vampires. However, his hatred is slightly tempered by the arrival of Solstice.
Solstice is an anomaly in the vampire world. Her mother was attacked by a vampire whilst carrying Solstice; this changed her into a half breed, able to walk in the daylight. The ending has a huge and shocking twist, which has me now champing at the bit for the rest of this series!
Bryan's descriptions and imagination leaves me speechless! The story is fast paced and flowed beautifully; I could easily see this on the movie screen one day.
I highly recommend this book if you love a fantastic thriller/horror story with bite (pun intended!).

Solstice Excerpt:

At the end of the hallway, a woman stood with her back turned to us. She seemed like she was staring at herself in the mirror that was hanging on the wall. The mirror was very old and dusty. Like an antique that was just discovered. She wore a blue dress that had been tattered. They had, indeed, gotten to this house. And now there were at least seven more people that were vampires and carrying the AIDS virus. The question was, if they had fully turned. I wasn't interested on how many people they may have fucked during the transformation. The only thing that came through my mind was where my damn high beam halogen light was.
“Solstice,” I whispered, “I need for you to go into the trunk of the car and get the thing that looks like a giant flash light. Can you do that?” I turned to see her response and she was holding her side again. While I was waiting for the answer, I looked at the rooms on both my sides. I could see a blonde haired woman on my left, sleeping. To my right was another woman, this one with black hair. She was sleeping as well, but they were both breathing very heavy and it just seemed to get worse after each second. In fact, the woman in front of us, down the hallway, was breathing heavy and fast. I started to think that the woman in the blue dress wasn't looking at herself in the mirror; rather, she went to sleep that way.

Equinox:

Equinox Description:

Confined in an old plantation home with Vampires lying in wait Gavin and Solstice are forced to wait them out until sunrise that is perilously approaching. Unbeknownst to them the remnants of the house are even more terrifying than what is lying in wait outside. Solstice is coming into her own and her feelings for Gavin begin to come to light. Gavin is stuck in the memories of his deceased family, but the apparition he sees that resembles his dead daughter doesn’t help. Lying in wait to escape at the first chance possible, will they make it through the vampires and the supernatural creatures that have inhabited the home for a very long time? “Equinox” ups the ante in the Solstice trilogy, and no one involved will come out the same.

Review:

Equinox (The Solstice Chronicles #2)Equinox by Bryan W. Dull
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This is the second book in the series. I really enjoyed it.

Gavin Moxley is a fascinating character. He is a vampire hunter bent on killing vampires who have been infected with the AIDS virus. However, becoming the unwilling protector to a half vampire/human child is the least of his problems, even though said child is growing at an alarming rate. It's the vampires chasing them that has him worried. I liked him a lot, but he can be a bit of a jerk sometimes!

Solstice is an extraordinary young lady. Not only is she a half vampire, she is able to walk in the sunlight. All other vampires are after her blood. Growing up so fast brings it's own issues, and Solstice finds herself facing strange new emotions. I enjoyed watching this character grow, and found her to be extremely likable when I wasn't wanting to hit her with something! She acted like a slutty brat at times. I know it's not her fault (hormones and all that), but still!

This story continues from the end of the first book. It is now told from several points of view, rather than just from Gavin's. This makes it interesting, but it can be slightly confusing too. I don't know if it was just the copy I received or not, but there didn't seem to be a clear division between each character's thoughts and actions. I really loved the first story, but felt that the intensity was lost when the author chose to change to a third person narrative. That being said, I became engrossed in the story and was quickly drawn back into the lives of these characters. The father/daughter aspect of Gavin and Solstice's relationship gets tested in the most unusual way! The story takes a paranormal twist with a house filled with ghosts. The author's love of horror and the paranormal comes shining through, and the creepy factor is way up on the scale! Mixing two paranormal genres is a gamble, and I think that the gamble paid off. I was reminded of the 1999 movie "The Haunting" with Liam Neeson. I loved that movie, and this book gave the same sort of vibe, but with vampires thrown in.
There are several twists and turns that kept me hooked and the ending made me gasp! I am now looking forward to reading the next (and last) book in the trilogy.

Bryan Dull has a vivid imagination and his writing style reflects this. The story is fast paced, but because of the changing scenes showing the various points of view, it felt a bit clunky at times. However, that may just be my interpretation, and I will leave it up to you to make up your own mind.

Due to the violence and some rather disturbing scenes of a sexual nature, I do not recommend this book for readers under the age of 18. However, I highly recommend this book if you love a fantastic thriller/horror story with bite (pun intended!). - Lynn Worton

Equinox Excerpt:

He took a deep breath and answered, “They’re not coming in.  Something about this place keeps them in their place and out there. That’s the best we are going to get at this point and we are quite lucky for that.  Sit down and relax and do that thing you do where you know shit about the situation.” Solstice threw her hip out and put her hand on it.
Solstice felt like a circus magician or even one of those carnie freaks that she heard about. That’s what one of her prostitute “care-takers” called her. She didn't know what it meant at the time but as the days went by and her “abilities” got stronger, she figured it out. Solstice wanted to yell as well but held back because she knew Gavin was trying to hold back his. She figured it was probably for the best and that he was actually right for a change. What Solstice didn't know was the brief moment of terror Gavin had earlier by himself while sitting down.

Book Review of The Time Smugglers ( The Camelot Inheritance ~ Book 2 ) by Rosie Morgan

Synopsis:

It’s been a year since Arthur Penhaligon swapped his skateboard for a sword and became a reluctant, teenage hero - and a Guardian of Cornwall.
Twelve months since he and his friends found themselves among time-travellers and ancient knights.
Fifty-two weeks of wondering what would happen next. The waiting is almost over.
On Cornwall’s shores, old and new enemies are gathering, more deadly and more powerful than the four Guardians could ever imagine.
Memories will live and the Time Keeper will be named. There will be bloody battles, death will finally claim its prize and a tiny green dragon will make its mark

Nick still jokes (all the time), and Gawain’s Uncle Kitto is just as mysterious. Tamar is even more feisty and Arthur discovers that some old enemies will not die – well not quite.

'A long-limbed figure scrambles over the rocks accompanied by a midnight-feathered bird. On the cliff path, a Watcher observes the man and the bird, before disappearing with a crackle and a 'woomph' into another century.
Meanwhile Arthur, Nick and Tamar sit together on the hillside above the beach, three of the four Guardians, unaware that the peace of the last year is about to be shattered in the cruelest way possible.

Review:

The Time Smugglers (The Camelot Inheritance #2)The Time Smugglers by Rosie Morgan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a copy from the author in return for an honest review.

This is the second book in The Camelot Inheritance Series for middle grade children that takes the myths and legends of Arthur (that's King Arthur to you!) and gives it a modern twist. I loved it!

Arthur Penhaligon is a fantastic character. He is a young man with an amazing destiny - he is a Guardian of Cornwall. I really liked this character when I first met him in The Golden Sword. He has done a bit of growing up over the year, but there is still danger lurking, and Arthur and his friends, Nick, Gawain and Tamar, are in for another adventure.

This is a fantastic adventure series set in Cornwall, England. I have been eagerly waiting for this story, because I wanted to know what the intrepid trio had been up to. This tale is told from several different points of view, which I found most interesting, and kept me hooked from the first page! I was swept back into the lives of Arthur, Nick and Tamar, as well as their new friend Gawain. There are a few other characters that make another appearance. Mainly the Watcher's and the Writer. These are enigmatic characters that bring their own kind of intrigue to the tale. Why are they watching? Why are they recording events? These questions and more floated round my head, but that being said, I found them rather fun too! Their antics (especially the Watchers') made me giggle in places. I suppose time travel can cause it's own issues! There are several twists and turns that surprised me, and I just love Nick's dragon! Where can I get one?
This story is a mix of adventure, myth and magic that will keep younger readers completely hooked!

Rosie Morgan is a debut author who has written an exciting adventure series for children. I am becoming a huge fan! I love her writing style, which is fast paced, and I loved the way the story flowed. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series as soon as possible.

I highly recommend this story to both boys and girls in the 7 to 14 age range. However, I also recommend this book to adults if you love YA or fantasy genres. - Lynn Worton
