Author Interview:

1. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I have always loved writing, but I never took it seriously until about a year ago.

2. How long does it take you to write a book?

First completed draft takes about two months and then I go back a little later and polish it.

3. What do you think makes a great story?

A story that allows you to escape from your own reality and dream about other possibilities which are completely endless in the book world.

4. What is your work schedule like when you're writing?

Whenever and where ever I can. I have a full time job and 3 small kids so I squeeze it in.

5. How do you balance family and writing?

I have literally caught myself writing during commercial breaks, but normally I write on lunch at work.

6. Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

It usually starts with a phrase or an idea and then just transforms into this amazing video in my head. That is my favorite part.

7. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your book/s?

I had to slow down and really look at how others might feel when they read it. It all made sense to me, but I wanted the reader to be able to understand with it as well.

8. How many books have you written? Which is your favourite?

3 and a half. I love them all for different reasons but I think Test Drive is my favorite.

9. Are your characters based on anyone you know?

No, I base them or personality traits more than actual people.

10. How hard is it to get published?

It’s harder to find the right publishing company than it is to find someone to publish you. You have to be careful who you trust and make sure it is the right fit.

11. What do your family and friends think about your books?

They think it’s amazing that I have made it this far and I am just getting started. They are very supportive.

12. What do you like to do when you are not writing?

13. Do you have any suggestions to help aspiring writers better themselves and their craft? If so, what are they?

You have to know that there are millions of people out there publishing and to not get discouraged if you don’t succeed at first.

14. As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

Be a lawyer lol but I lack the motivation to go through the extra college.

15. What are your favourite books and which authors inspire you?

Surprise Island.. The English Garden Series by Lori Wick and I love James Patterson.

16. For an aspiring writer what do you feel are certain do's and don’ts for getting their material published?

Don’t let anyone change your book, don’t expect it to go out overnight and do understand your contract in depth.

17. What are you working on now?

I need to start working on Book 2 of the Bachelor Series but I am trying to finish a Christian Romance I started a while back.

Thank you Avonlea, for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer my questions.
