Was he seriously smoldering at me? I arched a brow and had to hold back a chuckle. I didn’t realize that I was giving a show while I was taking a break and regaining my breath, but by the way Roman was looking at me you’d think I had just performed an intentional strip tease. That naughty thought actually sounded like a good idea but not after I just endured pain of the dancing form. “You’re cute,” I muttered through the smallest of grins that I could muster as I pushed off of the counter and decided that I’d had all I could take of this insane class. If anything, the desire in Roman’s eyes grew even stronger. I had to be in an alternate universe, no one looked at me like they wanted to devour me, but that would be a lie, because Roman was basically calling my bullshit on that. I took the plastic bottle from his grasp and tipped it up filling my mouth just as before in hopes of cooling myself down, but with the close proximity of Roman, it was just further making my temperature rise. I caught him leaning into me and once his lips grazed the outer shell of my ear, he said, “The way you drink that water completely turns me on. Your lips wrapped around the opening of that bottle makes me long for the day you’ll do that to me. And don't even get me started on the way your Adam’s apple bobs up and down with each and every gulp, making me want you more and more with each passing second.” I swallowed rather loudly trying to get past the lump that was submerged in my throat. “See that’s what I’m talking about, you don’t even realize what you’re doing, but it is incredibly erotic.”

About the Author:

I currently reside in Southern Indiana with my husband and two daughters. I spent most of my life trying to get out of Indiana, then spent four years trying to get back in, once my husband enlisted in the US Army and we were stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.

I am a stay at home mom and wouldn’t have it any other way. Even though most of my time is spent transporting my girls to their various sports activities or running them back and forth to school, it is a blessing just to be with them each and every day. I am a concert and road trip junkie! I love the thrill of seeing my favorite bands live, and just having fun on the open road. My kindle has become like an extra appendage, as it is never far from my side. I became obsessed with books a little more than a year and a half ago and wished I had gotten into them much sooner!! Somebody tell Aunt Tillie She's Dead by Christiana Miller

This is the first book in the Toad Witch Series. I enjoyed it.

I downloaded this audio book and started listening. This story was narrated by Marie Rose. She did a wonderful job in bringing the characters to life, but I felt that her narration was a bit rushed at times.

Mara is a character I struggled to like. In fact, I wanted to strangle her myself due to her "woe is me" attitude. Granted she has not had the best of luck, what with losing her job and then her apartment, but in a way she brought these things on herself. She is a powerful witch, though I found her to be a poor lead character.

This was a story that I struggled to get into at first. I found myself a bit ambivalent to most of the characters, which saddened me. However, I did love Gus. He felt more like a lead character to me, rather than a secondary one; I loved his flamboyant and boisterous attitude.The story lagged and didn't really get interesting until Mara met Aunt Tillie at the cottage. I found myself doing a lot of eye rolling at some of the situations Mara found herself in, and was fully on Aunt Tillie's side for getting rid of her. However, that being said, it was interesting to follow Mara through the latter part of the story. I am not fully versed on the practice of Wicca, so cannot comment on whether the spells used by both Mara and Gus would actually work. However, to err on the side of caution, I would say don't use them - you could accidentally release a demon, or a power hungry witch! There are some light moments in the story which made me giggle, but there are also some dark moments that made me shudder. There are also several twists in this tale that kept the latter half of the book interesting, but there were also a few threads that were left loose and never fully explored. Perhaps these will be dealt with further in the series. Unfortunately, with all due respect to the author, I don't think I will be continuing with this series, as I just couldn't connect with the characters. Though I love paranormal stories full of humor, this book just wasn't my cup of tea. I will leave it up to you, the reader, to decide for yourselves.

Christiana Miller has written an intriguing tale. Her writing style is not particularly fast paced compared to other authors I have read, but she does have a flair for describing scenes vibrantly. Her world building was wonderful, but her characters, especially the heroine, could have done with being less helpless and had more common sense. The flow of the story was a bit erratic in the beginning, but evened out near the end.

Due to several mentions of explicit sex and sexual acts, I do not recommend this book to younger readers. However, I recommend this book if you love paranormal romance or stories about Wicca and witches. - Lynn Worton

“These people?” I question. I hadn’t noticed anyone else but Whitley since the moment I picked her up.

“What can I get you?” the waitress asks, interrupting us. 
Whitley’s eyes widen. “Oh, umm.” She pushes the hair back from her face. 
She’s so beautiful. 
“Instead of the Mahi-Mahi, can I just get the one Mahi, because I’m not that hungry?” 
My eyes bulge and I can’t contain my burst of laughter. 
Saying nothing, the waitress pauses as Whitley looks up to her looking innocent and doe-eyed.
I have to give it to Whitley, she doesn’t break. She keeps a straight face and looks to the waitress, expecting a response.
“We,” the waitress, whose name appears to be Lacy, stutters, not understanding the movie quote. “We’re actually out of the Mahi-Mahi.”
Unaffected, Whitley closes the menu. “Oh, well, okay. I’ll just have the tilapia with roasted vegetables. Thank you.” 
Lacy takes Whit’s menu, shakes her head and turns to me. “And, for you?”
Now she’s short with me. 
“I’ll take the flounder. Thank you.” I smile at her, struggling to break the tension.
Lacy’s shoulders soften and she takes my menu and heads toward the kitchen.
When we’re alone, I look to Whitley. “House Bunny? Really?”
“What? I thought it was funny.”
“Me too,” I admit. Laughter is something that has been sparse in my life.
“Is it your favorite movie?”
She laughs. “House Bunny? God, no. Funny, but certainly not my favorite.”
“Then, what is?”
She takes a moment to think, not answering right away. “Honestly? I don’t really have a favorite movie. Well...I mean, maybe I do. It’s just so hard to choose. It changes all of the time.”
“Okay. Top three.”
“Umm...Princess Bride, Ferris Buller’s Day Off, and uhh—oh geeze, any Harry Potter.”
She seems embarrassed by her admission, but I sort of love her list. All classics in their own right.
“My name is Inigo Montoya. You kill my father. Prepare to die.”
“Yes!” She whoops. “Best line, ever.”
I laugh. “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”
She stomps her foot under the table. “Inconceivable!” 
We laugh together, and Whitley’s eyes sparkle with mischief. 
“Okay, Mr. Famous, what is your top three?” 
I hesitate. I’m always asked this question in interviews. Most are just hoping for their next endorsement, but I always give a generic answer. Usually, it’s the movie I’m filming or promoting at the time.
Cracking my knuckles, I try to really think about my answer. I’ve never genuinely thought about it. “Oh Christ, you can’t ask an actor that,” I laugh. “Really, I don’t know.”
Her shoulders sag. “You don’t know?”
“I don’t. I’m always in movies. I don’t have time to actually watch them. Hell, I’ve never even seen any of the movies I’ve filmed.”
“Wait, wait.” Whitley puts her hands up, stopping me. “You’ve never watched one of your own movies? Like, you’ve never watched yourself on the big screen?”
I shrug my shoulder. “Nope.”
“What?” she asks, dumbfounded. “Why? How? I mean—Jesus, Jenns, what do you do at premiers?”
I turn away, not really proud of my answer. “I leave. Slip out the back, or sit in the lobby. It’s always deserted while the film is running.”
“Then what? You return as the credits roll?”
“Basically, yeah.”
“Wow,” she breathes. 
“It’s just my thing. I don’t like to watch myself. In my eyes, I could always change my performance. I could have said something with more feeling, or looked deeper into the characters eyes. I’m hard on my acting, and in turn, end up beating my myself up. It makes me a shitty actor.”
Whitley stares at me blankly as I give up one of my secrets. 
It seems like hours before she blinks. 
“What are you thinking?” I ask. Frankly, I’m tired of waiting for her to say something. I thought she’d at least have an opinion.
Slightly shaking her head, she drags her fingers through her hair. “Holy shit. You have no idea.”
My mouth quirks down, and I tilt my head. “I have no idea, what?”
“You are...,” her eyes haze, letting me see into that door of her soul. “You are phenomenal on screen. Charismatic and fluid. Compelling and magnetic.” She touches my hand. “You draw people in with looks alone, Jennings.”
Not that my ego needs anymore feeding, but, fuck me, hearing her say those words. Words that don’t mean shit from anyone else, makes me feel like jumping on the table and shouting for fucking joy. 
My smile can’t be controlled. “You’ve seen my movies, Whitley?”
She rolls her eyes, a smirk breaking through her features. “Shut up. Everyone has."
“I didn’t peg you for someone to watch those kinds of movies.”
She snorts a laugh and rubs under her eye. “Yeah, well, you’re sort of famous.”
“You can’t resist my raw magnetism, right? God, I’m sexy.”

Book Review of T.E.D.: Tim Eric Delsin by Jayson James

Book Title: T.E.D.: Tim Eric Delsin

Synopsis:

TIM is being bullied. No one in high school wants to be known as a tattle-tale and to do so would only make things rougher for him. The repercussions would most likely make him an outcast, and without any friends.

ERIC is frustrated with life. His parents are overbearing and if they ever knew the person he really was, they would throw him out of their house. His friends are not much better, they only like him when he is who they expect him to be.

DELSIN is gay and ready to come out. Unfortunately, life at home is on the brink of falling apart with his parents constant fighting. Admitting the truth could bring his whole world crashing down around him.

Each of these three needs to decide whether the risks of being honest about who they are outweighs the importance of being true to themselves. This could mean ruining life as each of them knows it. Maybe it is better to remain miserable in order to play it safe. On the other hand, doing nothing doesn’t seem to working either.

T.E.D. by Jayson James

I have not read many books in the young adult gay and lesbian genre, so when I was approached I was a little wary. However, I like to think I have an open mind, so I said yes. I am so glad that I did, because I loved it!

Tim is a wonderful character. I liked him a lot. He is a typical seventeen year old, trying to cope with more than the usual angst; he is quite sensitive and kind. Maybe a little too much, which makes him vulnerable to the school bully. Afraid to report the bully in case of making the situation worse Tim hides it from his family, but his best friend Delsin knows.

Delsin is also a wonderful character. He has been friends with Tim since grade school, and is quite protective of him. Unfortunately, his home life is very dysfunctional and he has problems of his own to deal with; not least of which is knowing he is gay and afraid of his parents' reactions to his news.

Eric is a character that I thought I would love to hate; he is the bully who has been attacking Tim. However, as I got to know him a lot better, I actually felt myself feeling sorry for him. His life is just as angst ridden as the other two characters, but he has a secret that he has been hiding.

I started reading this story and was completely hooked! This tale is told in the alternating points of view of these three characters, which gives the reader a greater insight into their characters. These characters have flaws, which brings them to life. The main voice is Tim's, who uses his journal entries to describe events and his feelings. Each of these three boys have a shared past. Tim and Eric were friends when they were younger, but we never find out why they stopped being friends until further into the book; Tim and Delsin are BFF's and next door neighbours.
Although I really enjoyed meeting these characters, my only complaint about this story was the change from first person (Tim) to third person (Delsin and Eric). This in itself was not really an issue once I got used to it, but it was a bit unsettling at first. However, why the author used this type of narrative becomes clearer further into the story. As the story unfolded, several events in the tale shocked me, and some touched me deeply. However, one event made me realise why Eric bullied people; he is acting out to make himself feel better. Bullies are either jealous, being bullied or are abused themselves. I will leave it to you to find out which category Eric falls into. I reached the end of the story and I found it a bit bittersweet; I was sad to say goodbye to these characters, but happy that they had found peace with themselves and each other.

Jayson James has written a fantastic young adult story that explores several topics that every teen can relate to: bullying, angst, depression, stress, suicide, abuse - sexual, verbal and physical, friendship and love. He brings a sensitivity to these topics so that they do not feel judgmental. Although I have not read any other books by this author, I would certainly consider reading more of his work in the future.

Due to the mention of sex and sexual acts (not explicit), I do not recommend this book to younger readers. However, I highly recommend this book to older teens (16+) and adults who like to read YA or LGBT genres. - Lynn Worton

Audio/Book Review of Beautiful Darkness (Book 2) (Beautiful Creatures) by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

Review:

Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia

This is the second book in the Caster Chronicles series. I loved it!

I downloaded this book in audio format, as I wanted to read it, but didn't have time to. Having this book in audio format allowed me to listen to it whilst doing household chores, or before bedtime.
The story is again narrated by Kevin T. Collins, who does a fantastic job in bringing the characters alive. I loved his interpretation of Ethan's Great Aunts. I could just picture the sisters' quite clearly.

Ethan Wate is an extremely interesting character. I liked him very much. He is a sweet, loving young man, who happens to be a human thrust into a supernatural world of Casters (light and dark witches) and Incubi (demons).

Lena Duchannes is a character I didn't really like in the first book. She had a "woe is me" attitude that really grated on my nerves. However, in this story, she is mostly in the background.

This story continues from the end of the first book. I liked the fact that this story was again told from Ethan's point of view. I was hooked from the first few minutes of the chapter.

Life in Gatlin (or Gatdung as Ethan and Link call it) is not easy, but it's just about to get even harder! Lena has more than her fair share of teenage angst, but having the option in claiming herself on her sixteenth moon thwarted by her mother, she is struggling to cope with the death of her Uncle. Ethan is trying to cope with the fact that his father has had a breakdown and had been hiding in his office. He is also still hearing music, now about the seventeenth moon, and trying to figure out what it means.

This story is a mixture of mystery, suspense, danger, romance and intrigue that flowed much better than the first book; it is a little bit darker too. I liked the introduction of new characters such as Ethan's Great Aunts and their cat Lucille Ball and Liv, a trainee Keeper Librarian, as well as the Incubi, who are not Casters but demons. The influx of new characters gave the story a fresh twist. It was interesting to watch the dynamics of the characters change as things progressed, especially the friendship between Ethan and Liv. Link was his usual dorky self, but even his usually upbeat manner was tested when Ridley, Lena's Dark Caster cousin makes a reappearance. Ethan also finds out something about himself that shocks him; he is a Wayward (a person who is gifted the ability to find or track, as well as guide, a powerful witch such as Lena). There are several twists and turns which kept me enthralled, but there is one HUGE twist that I didn't see coming near the end of the book. I am now looking forward to reading/listening to Beautiful Chaos as soon as possible, to find out what happens next!

Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl seem to make a great writing team. Their writing style has improved a lot in this book, and it is more fast paced. The story also flowed better than the first book; I am glad that the erratic flow has been smoothed out and I look forward to reading more of their books in the future.

I highly recommend this book if you love YA or Paranormal Romances, or are fans of books such as The Twilight Saga. - Lynn Worton
